Everything You Need to Know About Fripp Island Leash Laws and Regulations

When Can I Bring My Dog to the Beach?

Strolling along the beach is one of the easiest ways to explore Fripp Island and have your furry friend there. The beach offers plenty of space and is a little less crowded than other beaches on the South Carolina coast! The beach rules change seasonally, so review the rules below!
  • Friday before Memorial Day through Monday after Labor Day: Dogs are not allowed on the beach between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. unless they are service animals. At other times, any dog may be on the beach on a leash or under voice control.
  • Tuesday after Labor Day through Sept. 30: Dogs may be on the beach anytime, but they must be on a leash between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
  • From Oct. 1 through March 31: Dogs can be on the beach anytime, either on a leash or under voice control.
  • From April 1 through the Thursday before Memorial Day: Dogs may be on the beach anytime, but they must be on a leash between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
Important safety note: When a dog exits the beach area, Fripp Island POA regulations are in effect and all dogs must be leashed, regardless of the hour or time of year.

Other Activities

Visit Beaufort

Beaufort, SC, is a short 30-minute drive away from Fripp Island and has many activities for you and your pet to have a fun and relaxing day. Activities include walking the Henry C. Chambers Waterfront Park, dolphin tours, Southside Dog Park, and more! Beaufort is the perfect place to enjoy a stroll, take beautiful sights, and make memories with your pup! When you're here, make sure to make time for a stroll through the pet-friendly shopping district. Not only is it a great place to browse for everything from jewelry and apparel to home goods and crafts, but it's not uncommon for store owners to put out bowls of water for those visiting with their dogs on a hot South Carolina afternoon. Many of the shop owners are pet-owners too and there's a real sense of pet-friendly community in this area that's hard to top. Afterward, consider spending some time at Hunting Island Beach where dogs are welcome year-round on not only the shorelines, but on the trail and within the camping areas, too.

Explore Island Trails in Perfect Pet Company

When you've had your fill of time on the sand and under the sun, there are other destinations to explore alongside your favorite canine companion while you're enjoying time on Fripp Island. In fact, Fripp Island is home to miles of biking and hiking trails to check out that are woven throughout the area's dynamic and rich landscapes. Enjoy a leisurely stroll alongside your four-legged friend or rent a bike and cycle across the island together discovering amazing wildlife and views along the way! The 3.5-mile beach on Fripp Island is also open for bikes so you can make it a shoreline adventure if you choose.

Dine in Pet-Friendly Style During Your Stay

While you'd be hard-pressed to find restaurants that welcome dogs into the main dining room, there are plenty of places within easy reach of Fripp Island that are more than happy to have patrons and their pets take a seat on an outdoor patio and dine with a view in the fresh air. A few that you're going to want to be sure to check out are located on Saint Helena Island. Make your way to Seaside Bar & Grill for fresh bites, delicious drinks and convenient pet-friendly patio dining to top it all off. The team over at the Johnson Creek Tavern is also happy to welcome guests and their pets to settle in on the patio and make the most of great menu options in good company.
