The Best Route From Atlanta to Fripp Island
The trip from Atlanta to Fripp Island by car is about five hours. There are two primary routes you can take through Georgia and South Carolina, but we recommend jumping on Interstate 20 before getting off on Highway 125 and taking that to the beautiful city of Beaufort. It’s an easy, no-sweat trip that only sees traffic on the check-in and check-out days closer to the Outer Banks.

Let’s map your route before you hit the road! The trip from Atlanta to Fripp Island is about five hours, but it’ll be more than worth it when you finally feel your toes in the sand on Fripp Island. While there are a few different route options, our favorite is down I-20 East and SC-125 South. You’ll have a variety of stops along the way to choose from before arriving in Fripp Island!
Along The Way 
There are a few great places to spot along this route to make your road trip even more exciting. The first is Covington, Georgia, packed with history and charm. If you’re traveling with teens, they might even recognize the town as “Mystic Falls” from the CW show, The Vampire Diaries.
Later, your route will lead you through Augusta, GA. This is another great place to stop, especially for golf and outdoor lovers. This area features a variety of museums, as well as the Riverwalk and the Phinizy Swamp Nature Park.
Lastly, you’ll find Beaufort, SC, just before arriving in Fripp Island. Many of our guests visit Beaufort for the charming scenery and incredible shopping found there. It’s one of the best stops you can make on your way to Fripp!
