Paddleboarding on Fripp Island

Although relatively new on the popularity scale, paddleboarding, also referred to as stand up paddleboarding or SUP, is actually an activity that is centuries old; the first reference to the activity dates back to 3000 BC. Of course, back then it was not a sport and its purpose was to enable a sneak attack on enemies participants were at war with, so we at Fripp Island Resort much prefer today's version! Today we are taking our guests on a tour of paddleboarding on Fripp Island offering the opportunity to center your soul as you strengthen your core and when your SUP adventures have finished for the day, we invite you to rest and relax in the comfort found in our Fripp Island Resort vacation homes.  To make the most of your Fripp Island vacation, be sure to take a look at our free Vacation Guide to learn about the area's best attractions and activities!

Fripp Island Paddleboard Tours

The sport of paddleboarding is an easy one to take up, but if this is your first time, you may want to sign up for a paddleboard tour, letting the guides help you with your board as they take you to some of the best spots in the Fripp Island area. NALU, located at 899 Bonito Drive on Fripp Island, is where you will want to head to first, offering guided tours by appointment only during the summer season. Available from Memorial Day through mid-August, the guides of NALU will provide as much instruction as needed before taking guests on an exploration of the waters that surround Fripp Island. This leisurely tour offers the opportunity to explore some of the wildlife in the area, and you may even catch sight of dolphins frolicking in the water.

On Your Own

Not everyone is a joiner and if paddleboarding with a group of strangers doesn't quite interest you, NALU also rents out the equipment to allow you to go it alone. The best spot for SUP is just outside the marina where you have rented your board, providing calm waters that are easy for even new boarders to navigate. Another popular spot, although the water is rougher and more crowded, is at the beach where you have probably already spent many hours playing in the water, relaxing on white sands, and just enjoying the serenity that can only be found in the ocean. All you need is a paddle, board, and water shoes (and sunglasses, sunscreen, and perhaps a hat!) as you head out on adventures that will never be forgotten, again, keeping an eye out for dolphins, sea turtles, and other creatures that inhabit the clear waters you are exploring.
