October brings the Owen Perry Inshore Tournament. Proceeds from this tournament benefit Camp Rainbow, which is a day camp for MCGHealth Children’s Medical Center hemotology and oncology patients. At Camp Rainbow, children with cancer and their siblings spend relaxing, fun-filled days with children in similar situations. Together, they learn from each other, offer mutual support and share their complex emotions. Camp also provides opportunities for children to build confidence, learn independence and improve self-esteem. October 22-24, 2020.
Fishermen ages 6 to 14 have their own event, the Kids’ Fishing Tourney, in November. Held the day after Thanksgiving, fishermen angle for trout, bass, flounder, spot, and croaker. Participants can fish from the marina docks, a boat, in the surf, your private fishing hole, or from the Maxwell Memorial Bridge. There’s no entry fee, but fishermen must supply their own rod, reel, and tackle. Prizes are given for the largest fish in each category. November 27, 2020.
