A Guide to the Best South Carolina Road Trips

Upstate, SC to Fripp Island

While the Upstate of South Carolina is beautiful and has much to offer, sometimes you find yourself in need of a getaway! Many residents of the Upstate travel to Fripp Island seeking the glimmering waters and relaxing atmosphere of Fripp Island, not to mention the fantastic golfing opportunities!

Although the drive from the Upstate is a little over four hours, the drive is a breeze! If you’re looking for a stop along the way, Columbia, SC, offers a myriad of activities and sights to see. You’ll find state parks, historic museums, breweries, and more! You can make a quick stop along the way or drive straight through if you’ll eager to reach the sea! Whether you’re traveling from Greenville, Anderson, Spartanburg, or another nook of the Upstate, the Lowcountry will be a getaway that you’ll never forget!

Myrtle Beach to Fripp Island

Although Myrtle Beach and Fripp Island are both situated on the water, they couldn’t be more different destinations! Plus, sometimes you just crave a change of scenery. Plus, our Lowcountry beaches have so much to offer! Pack the car and head south straight down the South Carolina coast for about four hours to reach Fripp Island.

If you’re looking for a place to stop, you’ll find that Charleston, SC, another Lowcountry gem, is right in the middle of your route! Packed with history and charm, you’ll find excellent shopping, dining, and outdoor activities before you finish the drive to Fripp Island.

Charlotte to Fripp Island

Trade the city life for a little vitamin sea over on Fripp Island! Paradise is only a four and a half-hour drive away. Charlotte is a beautiful city, but there’s a certain level of relaxation that often can’t be found in large cities. After all, there’s no therapy quite like being by the water!

Rock Hill and Columbia are excellent stops to make along the way! With Rock Hill just over the state line outside of Charlotte, this road trip is the perfect opportunity to take advantage of their great parks and nature offerings. Columbia, as mentioned above, provides plenty of things to do as far as historic monuments and outdoor activities. Afterward, Fripp Island will be awaiting your arrival!

Atlanta to Fripp Island

Believe it or not, Fripp Island is only a 5-hour drive from Atlanta, GA! When you live in a busy metropolitan area like Atlanta, you often need to step away to the sun and sand to really have a chance to relax and unwind. That’s why many Atlanta residents escape to Fripp Island when they’re in need of respite.

The route from Atlanta to Fripp island is truly one of the best road trips you can take! You’ll pass through both Macon, GA, and Savannah, GA, to discover an abundance of history, charm, good food, and even more character! However, you’ll be thrilled to finally arrive on Fripp Island where you can pamper yourself with all Fripp has to offer.

Savannah to Fripp Island

While Savannah and Fripp Island are both coastal towns, they have vastly different offerings! It’s easy to get from one city to the other with the short hour and a half drive up the coast. Savannah provides the exciting mixture of bustling city and beach town, but Fripp Island offers a great chance to get away and relax for a while.

We recommend stopping at St. Helena Island along the way! This is an island full of historical landmarks, museums, Gullah culture, and beautiful sights. They also offer the unique opportunity to ride horseback along the beach. It’s an excellent stop to break up the drive before heading to Fripp Island.
