How to Decide the Best Time to Visit Fripp Island

This same lush haven that was once a holiday mecca for seafaring pirates now boasts some of the finest championship golf courses and pristine beaches in the world. Fripp Island is graced with elegant Palmetto trees and lavish tropical foliage leading to its gently sloping beach that is swept continuously by refreshing trade winds. This perfect profile ensures Fripp’s idyllic mild climate that visitors flock year after year.

Winter

Fripp Island is the perfect destination to escape the biting cold that consumes much of the country during this time of year. Instead of piling on the parkas and scarves, get your beach fix! Although our pools are closed during the winter months, there are still so many activities available throughout the year that you can enjoy. Rent a racket and enjoy a friendly game of tennis on the resort’s tennis courts or take advantage of our world-class golf courses for a relaxing afternoon on the green. If sports aren’t your thing, you can never go wrong with lounging on the beach and exploring the island’s delicious food scene.

Plus, don’t forget to check the Fripp Island Resort calendar for details on events and special activities that may be going on during your stay. You don’t want to miss out!

Spring

There’s nothing like a spring day on Fripp Island. As the weather turns slightly warmer, our pools reopen, and guests slowly start to flood back to the island to dethaw after a chilly winter. Though not as crowded as the summer, there’s still plenty going on! Visiting during the springtime is ideal for visitors looking for a heavy dose of solace and warm weather while dodging crowds! Many choose to take advantage of the perfect temperatures to explore the Island via bicycle, scooter, golf cart, a paddleboard tour, or even on foot.

Summer

Summer is considered peak season on Fripp Island, and we understand why! You’ll find many fellow vacationers and an exciting, lively scene around the island. Although summer is the rainy season, you’ll still find plenty of sunshine and blue skies over our shimmering water. The rain only serves to refresh and rejuvenate, allowing time to shop or explore some of the indoor activities before returning to the beach.

The summer is also one of the best times to check out the nearby marina. Offering multiple charter opportunities for fishing, boating, and kayaking, you could plan a whole trip around being on the water here. Another great summer activity is taking a cruise on the pontoon boat, Fripper II, to get up close and personal with the lush plant and wildlife that surround the Island.

Bonus Tip: Visiting this time of year offers guests a chance to witness Fripp’s island turtle conservation programs in action. These efforts will help preserve these truly unique and marvelous species for generations to come.

Fall

Like spring, fall is another underrated time to visit Fripp Island! Everything becomes a bit more convenient and accessible after summer crowds have thinned out. You’ll be able to avoid restaurant lines and be able to enjoy many of the most beloved Fripp Island activities without the heat. The milder temperatures this time of year can even make things like biking, golfing, and playing tennis more enjoyable!

Although our pools close at the end of October, the beach remains open year-round! Plus, visiting during the fall months means exciting fall-themed holiday events that you’ll love to experience. Check our activities calendar to stay up to date on the latest happenings on the island.
